The GSA celebrates National Pride Day by giving students rainbow stickers.

My name is Stacy Wiener, and I am Co-President of this school’s Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) Club. On September 17, the GSA had its first meeting, and its goal is not only to provide our LGBTQIA+ students with a safe space where they can be themselves but also to create a wave of acceptance amongst the student body.

Last year a petition was created to bring back the GSA. Approximately 70 students signed the petition, and it was brought to Assistant Principal Mr. Pettis. Due to high interest in the club, the GSA was approved. Social Worker Mr. Melnick stepped up as the club’s faculty advisor.

Kat Nocerino, who is the club treasurer, feels that a GSA is always great to have, regardless of the social climate in the school. The GSA meets once a month in room 107 and is very welcoming to all students according to Melnick.

Since this is a new club, it has no set budget; however, it plans on holding many events and fundraisers, starting with participating in Spooky Hallways. Currently, the GSA has eight members but is always looking for more students to join. The club’s next meeting is Monday, October 22 in room 107.
