On Monday, November 5, Smithtown East’s PTSA held their annual Fashion Show at Flowerfield Celebrations in Saint James. With the sponsors of Merrily Couture and Black Tie, student and teacher models strutted down the runway showing off this season’s styles. This event’s proceeds were collected for cultural arts programs and student scholarships.

As in past years, Smithtown East’s student leadership class played a substantial role in the organization of the Fashion Show. This was headed by advisor, Ms. Morgan Tavis, and student leader, senior Elizabeth Orlandi. Their responsibilities included creating raffle baskets, arranging dress fittings, scheduling makeup and hair appointments, and decorating the ballroom with an elegant fall theme.

In addition to raising funds for scholarship programs, both Merrily Couture and Black Tie—the shops that provided gowns and tuxedos for the models—had the opportunity to advertise their new lines for this upcoming prom season. A brief background of each designer, style, and model was given to inspire those who admired it to shop for that gown during their prom fashion search.

Fashion Show chairperson, Liz Orlandi, concluded, “With all the help Merrily Couture, Black Tie, parent volunteers, and the PTSA, we were able to raise over $7000. I could not be happier with the results of this event and the opportunities it will provide for students at East. I hope this year’s fashion show will be influential for years to come.”

Merrily Couture is located at 354 Route 25A in Mt Siani and Black Tie Tuxedos is located at 163 Terry Road in Smithtown.
