Leader of the free world Donald Trump yet again continues to divide our country on the basis of his own thought process. This month he’s posing radical plans on the topic of immigration and documentation, and these potential orders could be detrimental to the future of our country.

Trump’s plans on handling immigration in the United States are entirely malicious and will rid this country of its liberating bedrock values.

His largest issue pertains to the problem of undocumented immigration; part of the problem is that Americans are stagnant in changing their perceptions of immigrants. Many only view foreigners as aliens who come onto our soil to commit violent acts, steal jobs, and fail to take part in furthering the nation’s wealth. Contrary to popular belief, immigrants participate considerably in the American economy, as they contribute to Social Security and Medicaid even though they’re not guaranteed they’ll receive benefits back from the government. Additionally, immigrants are less likely to commit crimes in comparison to our native-born population. According to Pew Research Center, “Immigrants are also projected to drive future growth in the U.S. working-age population through at least 2035.” Both undocumented and documented immigrants contribute massively to the U.S. economy allowing greater economic stability.

Fear is the main appeal that Trump manipulates which gives him the ability to make these claims and take these steps towards a white-washed America. This order will cause people to question the republic in which they reside, and it will teach children to be wary of the U.S. government’s protection of its people. This order calls into question the President’s authority and ethics.

With lack of documentation, there’s an obvious problem; however, we overlook the passion harnessed within individuals that wish to be Americans. Migration is almost alarming to some, due to the belief that foreigners are a threat to national security. If we reflect on our country’s foundation and face the reality that immigration is what birthed the greatness of this nation, the tone of discussion may change.

The President is planning to rid the nation of the constitutional assurance that those born in this country are automatically granted citizenship. According to a Washington Post article published on October 30, Trump made the false claim, “We’re the only country in the world where a person comes in, has a baby, and the baby is essentially a citizen of the United States for 85 years with all of those benefits.” Thirty countries, including Canada and Mexico, follow this same procedure.

Contrary to Trump’s claims, ending birthright citizenship is a complete violation of the Constitution and a violation of morality.

The Fourteenth Amendment states, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.” This order grants every individual who is birthed on our soil to automatically be a citizen. Trump’s desire for the order which is a complete denial of the Constitution, says a lot about his respect for this country. His demonstration of complete disrespect and lack of appreciation for our Founding Fathers hard work is detrimental to our nation’s advancement.

Are we insinuating that God-given rights can be taken away whenever The Man decides?

And by the way, is this new concept only applicable to certain groups? Will everyone have to proceed with this order or does it pertain to just a few? Will people have to grow up knowing the government’s distrust in its people? Will the documentation process be altered so that children are forced to apply for their green cards before they can even learn to read?

Trump’s take on illegal immigration is corrupt and an order ridding Americans of automatic birthright citizenship will result in a loss of pride among citizens in the United States. There’s indication that Trump has no problem purging our country of fundamental rights just to pass his own bigotry- infused orders. What’s next? Will we continue to see the First Amendment lose credibility just so that he can have absolute power?

This country would not be what it is today without immigrants’ hard work and diligence. America’s freeing bedrock values wouldn’t be a symbol of our nation still to this day without the commitment exhibited by those foreign-born.

Everyone should equally possess the ability to live out the American dream without fear of being removed by one man’s inelastic, ignorant mindset.
