Sophie DeNicola
Sophie DeNicola is a managing editor on The Matador’s staff this school year. She takes AP Research, and has previously been enrolled in the grade nine and ten English Honors courses, and AP Seminar. She is most interested in sports and news writing, but enjoys realistic fiction writing as well. Sophie participated in the National Student Leadership Conference for Journalism at American University during the summer of 2017, where she was able to study the art of sportswriting through hands-on experiences and lessons. Sophie is a member of Smithtown East’s English, Italian, Social Studies and National Honor Societies, Athletes Helping Athletes, S.A.D.D., and the Youth Ministry Program at Saints Philip and James Church. She has also been a member of Smithtown East’s varsity field hockey and lacrosse teams for the past four years. Being the sportswriting geek that she is, Sophie enjoys watching SportsCenter, but also loves shows like Dexter and the Office. Her favorite movies are Breakfast at Tiffany's and La La Land.

Reading List: Sophie suggests The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas for realistic fiction lovers and for daily news, the Washington Post.

Listen: Sophie’s favorite albums right now are Swimming by Mac Miller and Suncity by Khalid.
