On November 7th, 2024, I had the opportunity to sit down with Madame Romond to discuss her passion for teaching, the French language, and her love for traveling.
Romond expressed that the reason she became a French teacher stemmed from high school experience. In school, her French teacher told her that she would not amount to anything with the French language, Romond’s response to this negativity is inspiring, “I really wanted to just show her that I can do it and I was very determined.” She eventually had the chance to see the teacher again and show them her success.
During the 2024 school year, she helped run the EF Tours trip to Canada, these tours are run through our school and allow students the opportunity to travel and experience other cultures. When asked what French culture was like in Canada, Madame Romond explained, “They were so welcoming, especially knowing that there were a lot of students learning how to speak French.” She believes if they had brought students to France, it would have been a very different experience.
Travelling is a major part of Romond’s life. She has a handful of stories that she loves telling her French students. Certain trips, including Costa Rica and her camping trip to Southern Africa have stood out to Romond and left a lasting impression on her. She reminisced, “They were a lot of fun and were some of her favorites.”
Throughout her travels, she has had a number of interesting experiences. From bribing a tour guide in Africa for her engagement ring, to visiting an abandoned hotel which led to an interesting evening. Madame Romond said, “He ended up getting us a hotel room in an abandoned hotel!” “I don’t know how we did this, it was very stupid! We could have been in so much trouble!” She says this was very memorable and a trip to remember.
