Envision it: school is out, you’re lying by the pool, and it’s an 80-degree day. One thing is missing… the perfect summer read. There’s no need to scroll on TikTok for your next book recommendation; here are some of the best:
1: The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han – This trilogy is a young adult romance following teen girl Belly Conklin as she spends her summer at the Fisher family beach house. Conklin learns to navigate her summer differently this year, now that she is considered “pretty”. Her longtime crush on Conrad Fisher is tested when she meets a new guy who treats her differently. The book series has been turned into a hit TV series on Amazon Prime. If you like this series, watch Mamma Mia, Challengers, or 500 Days of Summer.
2: Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid – This book follows Daisy Jones as she uses her musical talents to join the upcoming band The Six. Taking place in the 70s, the band goes through many trials as they learn how to handle their newfound success. During their interviews in the late 90s, the band reflected on their decisions and careers as they had many ups and downs throughout their time together. This book was made into a TV series on Amazon Prime, featuring original songs by the fictional band. If you enjoy this book, watch Almost Famous, A Complete Unknown, or Empire Records.
3: The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes – When the rich Tobias Hawthorne dies and leaves everything in his will to a seemingly random girl, Avery Grambs, his four grandsons come together to figure out why they were removed from the will and who this girl is. Throughout their time at the mansion, they uncover new clues helping Avery discover her relation to the deceased billionaire. If murder mystery is your thing, you should watch Knives Out, Ready or Not, or Clue.
While these three books are undoubtedly my favorite summer reads, there are an endless number of novels to unwind with. I can’t stress enough: pick up a book, any book. I promise you won’t regret it, and maybe you’ll want to pick up another!
