We’re all familiar with the “new year, new me” and the frenzy of spring cleaning weekends, all done to start a new life. The one thing all of these self-improving holidays have is a temporary effect. The second you’re done cleaning out that garage or starting a “healthy eating” journey, something always gets in the way of your progress. We are never consistent with these new routines, and this is because we make too big a deal out of them. Truthfully, we don’t need to wait for the change of seasons to start a new goal. Instead, try something simpler: a weekly reset. One day each week, you put aside time to reset your room or life and easily stay consistent with it. But what is the ideal day of the week for this? The start of the week is Sunday.
Known as the “Sunday reset,” this weekly routine can bring your goals together by creating a clean mindset and space to do it all. This isn’t just another quick fix, but it could improve your life if you stick to it—and it’s quite simple. On my own, I have started this routine and found significant improvements in my mood and productivity. I start by waking up at around 8:30 a.m. and planning my day. While it can vary from person to person, schedule to schedule, I’m able to get a general idea of what I need to get done on that day and that week. I then do some chores like laundry, changing my sheets, and organizing my room that’s been disoriented after a long week. By lighting a candle and putting on some Amy Winehouse or the latest Ariana Grande, I feel myself breaking through a cloudy mindset, becoming open and flowing with productivity.
Everyone is different, so take whatever brings you serenity and work it into one Sunday a week. By starting slowly, you’ll find that by the end of the week, you’ve completed the majority of your set goals and feel good about what you’ve accomplished. Who knows—you may even find yourself looking forward to your Sunday reset each week.
