After nearly a decade without a postseason appearance, Smithtown East football finally broke through in 2025, finishing 6–2 and returning to the playoffs under new head coach Gregory Lauri. Guided by their motto, S.W.I.N.G. (sacrifice, wisdom, integrity, nerve, growth), the team stayed resilient throughout the season.
A turning point in their season was during their homecoming game against Commack, where Smithtown East pulled off a thrilling 37-34 victory in front of a packed crowd under the lights for the first time in school history. The post-game atmosphere was so exciting, the crowd erupted and rushed onto the field to celebrate with the team! Senior captain and quarterback Antonio Marrone led the offense with 25 touchdowns and produced many exciting plays. Senior wide receivers Jonathon Jean and James Huxtable were on the receiving end of many touchdown passes from Antonio. Hunter Hughes and Ryan Farrell led the rushing attack throughout the season behind a strong offensive line, both having moments of huge plays. The strong defense was led by Senior linebacker Charlie Weydig at linebacker along with David Sack on the defensive line.
These players have been playing the game of football together since they were kids and all of their collective hard work and dedication has paid off in their final season together as Seniors. Smithtown East will look to continue this success in the future with its new coaching staff and its rising young stars.
