Breakfast – At Smithtown Highschool East, our Commons kitchen offers snacks, drinks, lunch, and breakfast. We have taken the responsibility of tasting and rating the food for you. If you are hungry in the morning, our top recommendation is a hashbrown. We have rated the hashbrown a 9/10. They are warm, soft, and most days, crispy. However, on rare occasions, they are squishy and stick to the paper, which is why we have given them a 9 instead of a 10. Another great breakfast option is the blueberry munchkins. They are very filling and we rate them a 7/10. This is because they are cold and sticky and can get on your hands. If you want to be healthy, sometimes there will be fruit smoothies, and we rate these an 8.5/10. They are smooth and tasty, but sometimes they can taste like straight yogurt. Our final favorite breakfast food is cereal, specifically Lucky Charms. We would rate these a 9/10. They are delicious and healthier than regular Lucky Charms; however, they are a little dry and that is why they are not a 10/10.
Lunch – Moving on to some lunch foods, we tried some lunch specials. We rate the mozzarella sticks a 8/10. They taste really good, but there is not a good cheese pull and they taste dry without the sauce. Another good special is the pizza bites. We rate these a 10/10. They are warm, and have the perfect combination of cheese and red sauce. We also tried the popcorn chicken, which we rated an 8/10. It’s pretty good, but it always feels like something’s missing. To wrap up lunch, we tried the Uncrustable PB&J. We give it a 9/10. It is really good, but occasionally, the jelly seeps through the bread and it can get soggy.
Snacks & Drinks – We have tried some of the school’s favorite snacks and drinks. First, we tried “Fantastix”, they are spicy but not too spicy, and are a healthier option than Hot Cheetos. We rate these a 10/10. A drink we thought goes well with these is the “Snapple Half & Half”. This drink tastes amazing and on the inside of the cap there is a fun fact! We rate this a 10/10. Another great drink option is the Poppies. They are a prebiotic soda with multiple flavors. We tried strawberry lemon, lemon lime, raspberry rose, orange, and Shirley Temple. Our personal favorite was the Shirley Temple, which we rated a 10/10. We recommend these for when you’re eating lunch or to start your early morning. A fan favorite is the Capri Suns. These are a really good, on-the-go, juice. We rate these a 9/10. They taste amazing, but there’s not much in it. Finally, our last snack is the Rice Krispies Treats. These are crispy marshmallow squares with airy cereal, and we rate them a 7/10. It makes your hands sticky and tastes plain, but the texture is nice.
In conclusion, if you get hungry during school, make sure to try these fan favorites from the Commons kitchen!
